BOSTON -- Paul Pierce and former Magic forward Brandon Bass each scored 19 points to carry the injury-riddled Boston Celtics to an 87-56 win over the Orlando Magic on Monday night.
The Magic set franchise lows for points and field goals (16). Boston was minus starters Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo and three bench players, drastically reducing its roster.
Bass and Pierce carried the offense and Boston got some strong play from a cast of down-the-bench reserves. The Celtics snapped a streak of six straight losses against teams with winning records.
Dwight Howard led the Magic with 18 points and 14 rebounds. He needs eight points to surpass Nick Anderson as the Magic's all-time leading scorer.
Kevin Garnett added 14 points and 10 boards for Boston.

Andrew Ladd, former Bruin Blake Wheeler and Eric Fehr scored for the Jets, who got two assists apiece from defensemen Zach Bogosian and Tobias Enstrom and ended a four-game road trip with a 1-3 record.

BOSTON -- Rajon Rondo scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half, leading the Boston Celtics to an 81-73 victory over Toronto on Wednesday night and a sweep of their two-game preseason series with the Raptors.
Rondo, the subject of post-lockout trade rumors involving Chris Paul before Paul was dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers, had 10 points in the first 8 minutes. Rondo had seven assists and two steals in 23 minutes.
Paul Pierce missed the game for the Celtics with a heel problem.
Andrea Bargnani led the Raptors with 20 points, and DeMar DeRozan had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- A judge Monday denied a motion to dismiss a lawsuit aimed at speeding up West Virginia University's departure from the Big East, allowing evidence collection to begin.
But Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge Russell Clawges says he wants more time to consider a Big East motion that the case be put on hold while a similar suit plays out in Providence, R.I.
Clawges told lawyers he'll probably rule on that issue by Jan. 1.
WVU sued the Big East last month, challenging the conference's bylaws in a bid to join the Big 12 in time for the 2012 football season. The Big East, which wants WVU to remain in the conference for 27 months, countersued in Providence four days later.

Elizabeth Beisel of North Kingstown finished eighth in the 100-meter backstroke at the Duel in the Pool in Atlanta on Saturday. Her time was 59.32. Elizabeth Simmonds of Britain won the event with a time of 56.82.
Otherwise, it was an American rout.
Even though the European women posted the fasted short-course time ever in the 400-meter freestyle relay, that was one of the few highlights for the visiting team. The United States wrapped up the victory with nine events to go, more than doubling its opponent in a 181.5-80.5 triumph Saturday.
American star Ryan Lochte said a message was sent with the London Olympics only seven months away.
"This is just the start of it," said Lochte, who won the 200 individual medley. "We're the team to beat, there's no doubt about it."
Certainly, there was no uncertainty about how this Duel would turn out after the Americans won 12 of 14 events on the opening day to build an insurmountable lead. Europe performed better on Day 2, winning six of 16 races, but they had no chance of chasing down the U.S.
"It was good fun," Britain's Francesca Halsall said. "But we knew it would be hard to get past the depth of the Americans. They had some great swims. They were the better team."
Elizabeth Beisel of North Kingstown finished third in the 400-meter individual medley at the Duel in the Pool in Atlanta on Friday night.
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary was the winner in 4:24.37, followed by Caitlin Leverenz, of Tucson, Ariz., in 4:24.62.
Beisel later finished sixth in the 200-meter backstroke. Her time of 2:04.57 was more than 4 seconds behind the winner, teen sensation Missy Franklin of Pasadena, Calif.

The 2011 Amica Marathon of Newport, which also included the UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon and a 5K, raised $10,000 for the Ronald McDonald House of Providence, according to Eident Sports Marketing.
For more than 20 years, the nonprofit organization has served as a temporary home for thousands of families, while their children were receiving medical care for premature birth, serious injury, illness or surgery.
"We are extremely grateful to receive this generous support from the Amica Marathon," said RMHP CEO Michael Fantom. "Support from the community permits the (Ronald McDonald) House to provide programs that allow families to spend additional time with a sick child, help ease financial burdens, provide a sense of normalcy and keep families together during times of medical crisis."
Devon Quigley, the son of Champions Tour star Dana Quigley, and a former golfer at the University of Rhode Island, is hospitalized in Florida with what a family member described as "severe head trauma" following an auto accident Wednesday night in Riviera Beach.
The cause of the accident is unknown, but the family member said that Quigley, 27, was driving alone, not far from his home in West Palm Beach, when he collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer truck.
It took more than a hour, the family member said, to extricate Quigley from his vehicle.
The Palm Beach Post reported that Quigley was in critical condition this morning.
Devon Quigley attended East Providence High School before enrolling at URI.
Brown guards Stepohen Albrecht (17) Sean McGonagill (19) combined for 36 points as the Bears snapped a nine-game losing streak to Rhode Island and beat the Rams, 65-56, Wednesday night at the Pizzitola Center.
The Bears (4-4) controlled play at the start of the second half. They quickly turned a two-point deficit into a six-point lead at 40-34 with a run that included two 3-pointers by Albrecht and a put-back dunk by Andrew McCarthy.
The Brown lead held between three and nine points until Dominique McKoy scored off one of the few Rhode Island fastbreaks of the night to make it 55-53 with 6:11remaining. Rhode Island then went five straight possessions without a point. Three of the five shots missed were 3-pointers. Brown got two free throws from McGonagill and then a 3-pointer by Stephen Albrecht to stretch its lead to 60-53.
We have real contest here at the Pizzitola Center.
Brown, which has lost nine in a row to Rhode Island, is within 32-30 at the half, thanks to a basket by Sean McGonagill at the buzzer. The hoop gave McGonagill 15 in the half.
URI, thanks to four 3-pointers in a 2:10 stretch, led 20-13. The Bears came back by ripping apart the Rhode Island press, leading to several easy baskets without any URI player in position to play defense.
Rhody coach Jim Baron shook things up to begin the night. He made clear just how unhappy he was with his team, which lost five of its first six, as he benched the entire unit that started the first six games.
In their place he went with freshman T.J. Buchanan and Rayvon Harris in the backcourt, and Levan Shengelia, Ryan Brooks and walk-on Anthony Malhoit. It was the first career start for all but Brooks.
They played for the first 3:48 and trailed 4-2 when they left. They were replaced by the usual starting team of Mike Powell, Jamal Wilson, Nikola Malesevic, Jonathan Holton and Orion Outerbridge.
